Greetings From the Pastor,
Welcome to the Athens Church of God web site. I accepted a call from God and this congregation to serve as the senior pastor in January 2009. At this church we, welcome everyone who is seeking a relationship with Christ—whether that relationship is a new salvation experience or a commitment to a deeper spiritual maturity. We practice Christian unity and open communion by believing that everyone who professes Christ as their personal savior is a part of the family of God. Therefore, we do not have visitors, only relatives fellowshipping together as one body in Christ.
While serving as an Army Chaplain in both active duty and reserves for 32 years, I ministered to soldiers and their families during stressful times of deployment and separation. The heartaches and difficulties of serving in our nation’s military since September 11, 2001 has left many families broken and torn to pieces. It is our goal and vision to provide the Love of Christ to these broken-hearted souls and to help mend their relationship with one another and with our Lord and Savior. My experience in marriage counseling and family therapy is available to those families in our church and community who are seeking help. I also provides ministry to our community through Hospice and other organizations. In the military I brought comfort and support to family members of soldiers while conducting death notifications and military funerals. All these experiences have prepared me to help people deal with the sadness and heartache of losing a loved one. Therefore, I believe it is my calling to be a pastor to our congregation and a chaplain to the larger community.
We, at Athens Church of God, want you to feel welcome enough to consider making this congregation your church home. Our style of worship is interdenominational. In fact, in the military, our style of worship would be considered a "general Protestant service." We believe in and practice "love for God and love to others." We are strong in community involvement and care for those in need. I believe our congregation has the most gifted and talented musicians in Limestone County.
